Capsule text rules
Steam keeps capsules simple. A capsule can show your game's art, your game's name and its official subtitle. That's it.
Not allowed on capsules:
- Review scores, from Steam users or from press
- Award names or award logos
- Sale text, like "50% off"
- "Wishlist now", "Buy now" or "Pre-purchase"
- Dates, like "Out Oct 4"
- Other games, sequels or DLC
Games that break these rules may show up less on Steam and can't be featured in official Steam sales.
Have new content to show? You can add text about a big update, an event or a DLC with an Artwork Override. It lasts up to one month and must be translated into every language your game supports. Sale text and "Wishlist now" are still not allowed.
Library art has stricter rules. The library capsule shows only your game's title. The library hero has no text at all. Your logo sits on top of it as a separate transparent file.

Common mistakes
- Using the old sizes. Steam moved to bigger capsule sizes in 2024 and no longer accepts the old ones. Check every file against the table above.
- A small capsule nobody can read. Steam shrinks it down to 120×45 in some places. If your name is thin or long, it turns into a smudge. Make the logo fill most of the space.
- Text on the library hero. The hero can't have any text. Put your logo in the separate library logo file.
- A face cut off on the hero. Steam crops the hero's edges when the window changes size. Keep faces inside the middle 860×380 area.
- A logo with a background. The library logo needs a transparent background, or it shows as a box on top of your hero.
- "Wishlist now" on a capsule. It's the most common rule break. Steam already has a wishlist button.
- Five different styles. When the header, capsules and library art look like different games, players notice. Use the same art, colors and logo across all of them.
