What makes players click

Roblox's own tips for thumbnails are short. Kitpop follows them for you.

  • Show the game. Players should see what they will do: build a factory, mine crystals, run from a monster. A random picture makes people guess, and guessing loses clicks.
  • Match the mood. Bright colors for a fun simulator, dark colors for a horror game. Color tells players if the game is for them.
  • One big idea. One clear scene beats lots of tiny things.
  • Keep the bottom clear. The player count can cover the bottom of your thumbnail. Kitpop tries to keep big text out of that strip, and checks each new thumbnail for it.
  • Use the right size. 1920×1080, 16:9. Any other shape gets stretched. Every Kitpop thumbnail downloads at 1920×1080.

Upload 2 thumbnails, let Roblox choose

Roblox can test your thumbnails for you. Turn on thumbnail personalization in the Creator Dashboard (Home Page tab). You need at least 2 active thumbnails. Roblox shows each one to different players and gives more views to the one that works best for each group. Roblox says to keep them all on, so it can keep learning.

  • Stylized and Realistic: more detail. These cost more per image.
